Dvorák - Stabat Mater Print
Saturday, 20 March 2010, 19:30 - 21:30 by yorkmusicalsociety

YORK MUSICAL SOCIETY CHORUS & ORCHESTRA

YORK MINSTER

Saturday 20th March 7.30 pm

Antonin Dvořák Stabat Mater

Soprano: Sarah Redgwick Contralto: Julia Riley
Tenor: Nicholas Ransley Bass: James Arthur
With students from Bootham and The Mount School.

Conductor: Philip Moore

Dvořák's setting of the Stabat Mater is the work which made him famous in the English-speaking world and is one of the most moving interpretations of this medieval devotional text.  Satisfyingly symphonic in its structure and orchestration, it has a lyrical warmth and shows Dvořák’s harmonic language at its most sumptuous. The Stabat Mater has moments of dramatic intensity and energy, balanced by passages of calm serenity. This concert offers an opportunity at Passiontide for reflection and meditation within the magnificence of the Minster.
